Lucky Me - Qantas Plunge

Story: Qantas passengers tell of horror plunge

"Police said 36 passengers and crew were injured, 20 seriously, when the Australian Airbus A330-300 flying from Singapore to Perth suddenly dropped thousands of feet in just a few seconds on Tuesday, forcing an emergency landing."

Thank goodness this did not happen to our Qantas flight from Singapore to Perth, WA on September 26. The flight was a little scary at certain moments where we could feel the slight drop in altitude like when speeding down a slopped highway at 100 km/hr. Some passengers shrieked...

After reading a few more similar articles, I realise that this Qantas aeroplane is the exact same flight that I was on when I flew to Perth - QF72 (Up to 40 injured in Qantas mid-air jet incident)

"The incident is the fourth involving Qantas planes in just two-and-a-half months and comes as a survey published late Tuesday showed that 63 percent of Australians believe the safety standards of their flag carrier have slipped."

Thank goodness for our safe departures and landings. I am so getting aviophobia >.<

Our Masked Night @ St James Powerhouse

Celebrated Aaron & Kenneth's birthday at St James Powerhouse last night. Theme - Masks & Party Head Gears!

The Group

I have never seen anyone having so much sober fun in a night. Not a huge turn-out since most of Kenneth's friends could not make it, but a bunch of Aaron's friends filled up the pack. We caught quite a lot of attention that night - the guys with their masks and me with my bling-bling Playboy bra strap (from Australia) and the "Pink" jacket (from Hong Kong). The expressions on the peeps faces when they realize that my blings were all from overseas was almost priceless. The night was F-U-N!!!

There are quite a lot more pictures to be collected and uploaded though. Keep checking back!

Another NS Man... Gone

Full Story: NSman who died had not submitted medical certificate

"
Private Foo had seen a doctor at the Singapore General Hospital on Sunday. He was supposed to rest from September 28 to 29 for "sprains and strains of the knee and leg", and to be given light duties for the subsequent four days.

It is not known why Private Foo did not report his medical condition, but investigations are currently underway and a full report is expected in eight weeks.

The former Singapore Polytechnic student died on Tuesday while doing chin-ups at Lim Chu Kang camp.
"

Question: What has a medical condition for temporary "sprains and strains of the knee and leg" has got to do with death while doing chin-ups?

"
Private Foo is the third full-time National Serviceman to have died in camp this year. Recruit Andrew Cheah and Officer Cadet Clifton Lam suffered the same fate in June.

All three were former students at polytechnics where physical activities are not compulsory, unlike junior colleges where exercise is part of the curriculum.

Chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs Indranee Rajah, who is also the MP of Tanjong Pagar GRC, said: "Obviously it needs to be studied more deeply and carefully, but to me, it does seem to me that before anybody goes in for NS, the preconditioning is important.
"

May I now quote from an earlier sentence within the same article which points out that this young chap is an atheletic person: "Friends and relatives remember Private Foo as an athletic young man who enjoyed basketball, and his death came as a shock to many who turned up at his wake on Thursday."

I would also like to bring to everyone's attention that being a healthy athelete does not guarantee you a long, full life-span. Yes, life is unfair. Some people smoke, drink and abuse their bodies but yet they are still alive and kicking at 70 years old when some who gym, exercises regularly and have good and well-balanced diets just collapse and die at a young age.

From some of my sources, physical demands in NS these days are bearable. I do not believe, at all, that Private Foo's "athelete" condition has anything to do with his sudden death. Polytechnics do offer sports -.-

Talking about the need to submit MCs in camp, I doubt that even if Private Foo did, they would not have paid much attention to it. Sadly, a number of years back, one of my dear friends' brother died while training in Brunei. He reported to his MO that he was not feeling well and is having a slight fever. Guess what? They ignored him. By the time they realised the seriousness of it, it was all too late. The fever was too high and there was nothing (in the forest) that anyone could do - the fever just won't go away. Yes, he passed away. My friend's only brother. This, is negligence. This, is unforgivable.
